Yessuita Christiyani

Sous Chef
Sous Chef Yessuita is excited to be a part of Carleton Dining Services and to have the opportunity to bring her background and expertise to the Dining Hall! Originally from Indonesia, Yessuita arrived in Canada in 2009 with no knowledge and experience in cooking, but a strong desire to pursue her dreams of becoming a chef and attending culinary school. She began learning to cook through the internet and eventually graduated from Algonquin College’s Culinary Management program. She has worked as a cook for Ottawa’s TD Place as well as a caterer for the Indonesian Embassy!
Yessuita loves to incorporate Indonesian flavours and culinary practices into her dishes whenever she can, but she also has a strong love for French cuisine and enjoys fusing different cultures with her own when preparing dishes. One of her favourites is poutine with beef rendang – a uniquely Indonesian twist on a Canadian classic! When she cooks Indonesian food or traditional Indonesian snacks, she does it with love and makes it as authentic as possible.
Yessuita’s love for cooking doesn’t stop when her workday is over. She can often be found cooking at home or deep cleaning and organizing her house. She believes that a clean space leads to a clean mind and fosters more innovative culinary ideas.
