Do you always find yourself running around campus from one thing to another and then suddenly realizing you’re starving? AKA the type of person who is always looking for something new to eat on the go. One of my favourite parts about campus is all the amazing food you can have. I have a ton of favourites that you can grab and eat while running to class, or have while you’re in the library finishing your countless papers. I decided to try food all across campus and rounded up my favourites. From grab-and-go meals to hot dishes you dine on in class, I’ve got you covered.

Almond Date Protein Smoothie

Second Cup, Canal Building

If you’re like me, sometimes the morning can seem impossible! When I have an early class, most of the time I just roll out of bed, grab my laptop and head to class. However, this usually leads to me being very hungry and grumpy around mid-morning. What I’ve started doing is getting protein smoothies, so I can sip them during my 8:30 classes, to keep me full until lunch. My favourite has been the almond date smoothie from Second Cup. This amazing treat is vegan, dairy free, gluten free and is made with one whole banana. I love this smoothie because it’s fairly healthy, filling and tastes like a candy bar!

Turkey Cranberry Sandwich

Starbucks, The Library, The UC

Is there anything better than the holiday season? This sandwich from Starbucks tastes like Christmas dinner but can be taken with you anywhere. Crispy bread, stuffing, turkey, gravy and cranberry sauce is what makes this meal so comforting! I like grabbing one of these sandwiches before long study sessions, so I can eat while I work.

Cheese Burger and Fries

Burger 101, UC Food Court

One of my favourite comfort foods is cheeseburgers. Burger 101 is great because all their ingredients are fresh and their burgers are all made to order! I really like getting burgers from here because they’re easy to eat when I’m rushing to class or for when my friends and I want a good meal while we relax after our lectures.

Buffalo Chicken Cobb Wrap

The Greens, UC Food Court and Loeb Café

If you’re a fan of cobb salads like I am, you’ll love this wrap! Essentially the buffalo chicken cobb wrap has chicken, lettuce, bacon, egg, tomatoes, guacamole and blue cheese dressing, all wrapped in a tortilla. My favourite part about it is that I get everything I love from my favourite salad, but wrapped up so I can eat it on the go.

Buffalo Cauliflower Wrap

The Market, UC Food Court

This is a vegetarian alternative to the above wrap. Crispy cauliflower, shredded veggies, buffalo sauce and ranch all wrapped in a warm tortilla make this wrap amazing. Although this wrap is completely vegetarian and may seem like it won’t fill you up, it will keep you full and happy throughout even your longest lectures.

Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich

Colonel By Chicken, UC Food Court

Is there anything better than crispy chicken? Colonel By Chicken is a ‘Carleton exclusive’ restaurant where you can get amazing chicken and side dishes. Their specialties include peri-peri chicken and amazing fried chicken sandwiches! The classic one I had was topped with pickles, hot sauce and lettuce, all on top of a soft bun. Needless to say, it takes everything in my power not to go back every day of the week.

Salmon Combo

Bento Sushi, UC Food Court, Loeb Café

One of my favourite things to do when I’m home is going out for sushi with my friends from high school. Bento Sushi has some amazing sushi, which makes me extremely nostalgic and satisfies my seafood cravings. My favourite thing to get is the salmon combo because I find it fills me up the most and salmon is my favourite type of fish. Although this meal can’t be eaten while on the move, it’s great for long study sessions because you can easily take it wherever you need to go!

Grilled Cheese

The Market Express, UC Food Court, Loeb Café & Tunnel Junction

The Market Express is the best when you’re rushing around but want to eat something more than that crushed granola bar in your bag. They have side salads, hot and cold sandwiches and warm meals like mac-and-cheese! However, my favourite is definitely the grilled cheese. This sandwich has local cheese, sour cream and crispy onion, all on a soft warm sundried tomato bun!  It’s perfect for when I want something to eat on the go but also is great for when I want something quick and easy to eat.

So, there you have it! Those are all my favourite bites to eat around campus. Whether you’re on the go, or just looking for something to eat while you study, Carleton has plenty of delicious options that fit into our busy schedules. I really love to get any of these in-between lectures or for long study sessions. I also enjoy treating myself to some of these meals on Friday, because wearing my Ravens merch gets me 10% off at tons of locations across campus thanks to Spirit Days. What are your favourite places to eat around campus? Take pictures and tag me in what you love to eat, I’d love to see it all!
